
Julie Ellen "Tawny", Kitaen, was an American model, actress and media model and TV personality. She lived from May 7, 1961, until May 7, 2021. She began her career as a television actress appearing in the television films Malibu (1983) and California Girls (1985). She also appeared in comedies The Perils of Gwendoline and Bachelor Party (both 1984), as well as the horror film Witchboard (1986). Kitaen was well-known for her performances in music videos featuring heavy metal like Ratt's "Back for More", Whitesnake "Still of the Night" as well as "Is This love" (all 1987). Kitaen also appeared on reality television shows like Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew (2008) and The Surreal Life (2006) that detailed Kitaen's struggles with substance abuse. Julie Kitaen was the youngest of three children, born in San Diego in 1961 to Linda Kitaen (nee Taylor) who was an actress and former beauty pageant contestant, and Terry Kitaen who worked for an organization that made neon signs. Kitaen was the daughter of a Russian-Jewish father as well as an Scottish mother. Kitaen was born Jewish. [4][5] Kitaen began using the name "Tawny" at the age of 12 years old, on her own initiative. She was dyslexic as a young child. This caused her to drop out from Mission Bay High School. [7] At the age of 14 having backstage access after a Peter Frampton concert at Balboa Stadium,[8] she experienced the VIP treatment afforded Frampton's girlfriend Penny and wanted to be a part of the same for herself.
