Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer that has received prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that examines female representations in popular culture narratives. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted assaults on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is committed to breaking the stereotypes in the pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the university. The ambitious young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web that focused on the gender of videogames. She was not deterred by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her determination to be a media critic and feminist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to.
